A Re-Think of Campus Lighting

The MIT campus has numerous outdoor light fixtures that are of the globe-variety, or that otherwise send a significant portion of the light they create uselessly up into the sky, wasting energy and adding to an already light polluted city sky. A logical and relatively easy to implement step in MIT's path to sustainability should be to replace all outdated and inefficient light fixtures with "full-cutoff" variety LED lights that direct all light downward. These reduce glare for drivers and pedestrians to create a safer street environment, minimize light pollution, and maximize energy efficiency.
